Chemring Energetic Devices Corporation, Torrance CA, Downers Grove, IL and Clear Lake, SD

 

CED designs and manufactures power cartridges, separation devices, electronic firing units, and other special components used by the aerospace industry, the military, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

 

As Vice President of Engineering Solutions

  • Led the effort for market analysis and capture for new product development.

  • Led the effort for inter-site and sub-tier operational improvements – specifically design for manufacturability, FEMCA, Risk Analysis, and Failure Analysis.

  • Created a receiving inspection system that lead to an 80% cost reduction for that site’s quality organization.

  • Led the effort to both integrate and standardize computer aided design structure and configuration management for multiple sites.

  • Developed and generated Explosive Site Plans for two Chemring sites that meet the current DoD4145.26M requirements.

  • Provided technical expertise in energetics, initiation, gas generator and detonation design, performance reliability and system engineering. Proficient in the use of USN CADPROG, USN NEWPEP, MiniTab, TK Solver (Roark’s Stress Equations) and BowTieXP.

  • Created the Company Engineering Design Notebook and taught the sites’ engineers “Ordnance Technology”

As Vice President of Engineering

 

  • Directed the following organizations:  Product and Development Engineering, Configuration Management, and Document Control.

  • Provided technical expertise in energetics, initiation, gas generator and detonation design, performance reliability and system engineering. Proficient in the use of USN CADPROG, USN NEWPEP, and MiniTab.

 

Hi-Shear Technology Corporation, Torrance, CA

As Director of Engineering

 

  • Directed the following organizations:  Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Test, Quality Assurance, Configuration Management and Document Control.

  • Provided proactive and creative technical support for Development and Production Programs by leading, planning and financial accounting for the design, fabrication, loading, assembly and testing of Cartridge Actuated Devices, Electro Explosive Devices, Safe and Arm Devices, and Space Mechanisms for Aerospace and Commercial Products; which led to the awarding of two Patents in Ultra Low Shock Output Separation Nut Devices.

  • Provided technical expertise in energetics, initiation, gas generator and detonation design, performance reliability and system engineering.

  • Led the transition from MIL-Q-9858 quality program to registry in ISO9001:1994/AS9000 in 2001 and the re-registry to ISO9000:2000/AS9100.

 

Olin Ordnance (Aerojet Ordnance), Downey, CA

The Olin Corporation is a manufacturer of ammunition and munitions.

As Senior Engineering Specialist

  • Led “Red Teams” for numerous ammunition projects that dealt with cartridge design, improved propulsion systems, and Load, Assemble, and Packout (LAP) manufacturing processes.

  • Developed and transitioned into production improved propulsion systems for 25mm M919, M910, and the M790 series cartridges.

 

U.S. Naval Ordnance Station, Indian Head, MD

The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology Division (NSWC IHEODTD) is the Department of Defense (DoD) Energetics Center and serves as the DoD Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology Program lead.

 

As Senior Project Engineer

  • Developed propellant for use in both large and small arms ammunition.
